Private Duty and Personal Care

In home care providers can assist with personal care and activities of daily living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs).  They can also be homemakers, companions, or patient sitters.

Assistance with ADLs and IADLs services include any or all of the following:

  • Personal care (bathing and hygiene)
  • Assistance with dressing and toileting
  • Assistance with eating
  • Assistance with ambulation
  • Range-of-motion exercises
  • Medication reminders
  • Meal preparation
  • Laundry and light housekeeping
  • Monitoring vital signs
  • Using the telephone
  • Handling transportation
